It’s not easy being a real estate agent in a saturated job market. In fact, according to statistics, 40 to 80 percent of first-year agents drop out of the business, and around 90 percent give up after only 3 years.
More than just carrying a license and having enormous knowledge of real estate laws and regulations, here are important tips on how to become a successful real estate agent.
Think like a business owner
You may work for a broker but as a real estate agent you are an independent, commissioned salesman who is responsible for your own success and failure. Think like a small business owner and run your practice like a local business.
Stick to a plan
Spend time researching and crafting out a business plan. Collate data, establish your sales goals, and identify how much time you will be spending on finding leads, marketing and selling. If you plan to build a team, identify who does what and when.
Budgeting is critical given the volatility of the real estate market. Your financial budget should maintain a balance between your marketing costs and your forecasted income.
Find a mentor
If you don’t have a plan, then hire someone to coach you on how to create a successful real estate investing strategy. Find a mentor who can help you get through some of the most common obstacles that will come your way. If you have the resources, you may wish to hire a real estate coach or an executive coach who specializes in real estate investments.
Just like many small businesses, real estate is said to be a 24/7 business so learn how to use your time and resources wisely.
